Father Passed Away Without Paying Mahr
Question
Assalamualaikum my father has been passed away,he didn't pay mahr to mother ,im I getting worried about it what's the ruling regarding this matter bvz my father will be question abiua it in akhira I want to safe him,whats w the ruling regarding this matter
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
In principle, if a man passes away without having paid his Mahr to his wife, it will be considered to be a debt upon him. Accordingly, it must be paid out to his wife from his inheritance unless the wife forgives the debt of Mahr.[i] You may advise your mother to forgive her debt or alternatively, you give the money to your mother on behalf of your father if the estate can not pay the debt.
