Is it permissible for a woman to shave her head with the permission of her husband due to excessive hair loss?
Question
Assalamu alaikum
Is it permissible for a woman to shave her head with the permission of her husband due to excessive hair loss, specifically due to suffering from androgenetic alopecia (which causes severe thinning/loss of the hair as well as bald patches on the scalp)? It has surpassed the stage where medicine can help stop the hair loss or regrow the hair.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Androgenetic alopecia, or hair loss is the most common form of alopecia in men and women. Almost all persons have some degree of androgenetic alopecia. [1]
In principle, it is impermissible for a woman to shave her hair. However, a woman may shave her hair for the purpose of treatment. Accordingly, if a dermatologist has advised that shaving your hair may restore your hair back to a healthier state, then you may do so. [2]
An alternative is that you wear a synthetic wig or hair extensions made from animal hair besides human hair and pig hair.
When wearing a wig or extensions, you will be required to observe Hijab in front of Ghair Mahrams.

المرأة إذا حلقت رأسها إن كان لوجع أصابها لا بأس به وان كان لتشبّه بالرجال يكره.

و أمّا إذا كان حلق المرأة شعر رأسها لعذرٍ أو وجعٍ فلا بأس به عند الحنفيّة، قال الأثرم: سمعت أبا عبد الله يسأل عن المرأة تعجز عن شعرها و عن معالجته،وتقع فيه الدّواب،قال: إذا كان لضرورة فأرجو أن لا يكون به بأس.
