Hifz Via Skype
Question
I am looking for someone who can help me to make my son a Quran Hafiz. Is there anyone who is already a Quran Hafiz who can help train my son via Skype? My son is 5 years old.
Answer
It is heart-warming to know that you are desirous of your son becoming a Haafiz of the Quran-e-Majeed at such a tender age. We pray that Allah Ta’aala accept your wish and make your son a pious Haafiz; one who will uphold the teachings of the Quran-e-Majeed in its pristine form.
We Muslims are taught that from the inception of Wahi (revelation), Islaamic knowledge was obtained from heart to heart in a physical manner. The Angel Jibraeel Alayhissalaam came in a physical form to Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam and this continued throughout the twenty three years of the mission of Nabuwwah (Prophet Hood).
Therefore, our scholars have opined that it is better to study the Quran and to a greater extent, the knowledge of Deen in the physical presence of a teacher; especially for a child at your son’s age. This is so because it is not merely learning to recite and memorize the Quran. Rather, along with that, the children have to learn the etiquettes of handling the Quran-e-Majeed, sitting in class and more. This will be achieved by being in the presence of a teacher.
A Student, who is in the presence of a teacher and sees the teacher’s personification of the Quran-e-Majeed, will grow up to emulate the teacher which is inadvertently following Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam. This cannot be achieved via a Skype class wherein the call will be made to start the class and it will end upon the completion of the lesson; without the student being able to physically see his teacher practice Islaam.
