Vomiting whilst fasting
Question
What is the ruling regarding the fast of a person who vomits whilst fasting, or he enters his finger into his mouth and vomits? Is there a difference between vomiting in a small quantity or large quantity?
Answer
If one unintentionally vomits whilst fasting, then the fast will not be invalidated whether he vomited a mouthful or less. However, if he intentionally enters his finger into his mouth and vomits a mouthful (being conscious of his fast), then his fast will be nullified, but if he vomits less than a mouthful then there is a difference of opinion amongst the scholars. According to Imaam Muhammad Rahimahullah, the fast will be nullified, but according to Imaam Yusuf Rahimahullah it will not be nullified. Some of the jurist have given preference to the view of Imaam Yusuf Rahimahullah, but there is more caution acting on the view of Imaam Muhammad Rahimahullah. [Kitaabun Nawaazil Pg.389 Vol.6]
