Should one put on shoes whilst standing or sitting?
Question
Is it better to stand and wear one’s socks and shoes, or is it better to do so whilst sitting?
Answer
It is better for one to sit and put on his socks and shoes. However, there is no need to exaggerate in this matter, as the ruling is based on whether one is able to control himself or not if he was to stand and put on his shoes. If by standing and wearing one’s socks and shoes there is a fear of falling, then one should sit and put them on, otherwise one can stand and do so if he is able to maintain his balance. Hence, the Mas’ala is of which option is better, and not a Mas’ala of permissibility and impermissibility.
