Marriage And Divorce

Question

A lady is married to a man several years older than her. He did not disclose to her that he is completely impotent and it is now having a negative effect on her. Please advise.

Answer

If the husband was totally impotent from the beginning of the marriage to the extent that he was unable to penetrate her, then he should be given a year to treat the illness. Due to a large number of people suffering from impotency, treatment is available hence, he should seek treatment. If the treatment is ineffective, then she may request a divorce; and if he refuses, then she may apply for annulment of the marriage.
