Displaying Calligraphy Of Quraanic Aayaat
Question
Kindly advise if it is permissible to hang calligraphy of Quraanic Aayaat on the wall, whether it is painted directly on the wall, or painted on a canvas and then hung on the wall?
Answer
The Kitaabs of Fiqh state that is Makrooh (undesirable) to hang up Quraanic Aaayat, irrespective of whether it is directly painted on the wall, or whether it is painted on a canvas and hung up. The reasoning cited by the Fuqaha mention for it being Makrooh is the fear of these Quraanic Aaayaat falling off, or the paint peeling off, or the building collapsing which will result in disrespecting the Quraan Majeed.

کیا فرماتے ہیں علماء دین ومفتیانِ شرع متین مسئلہ ذیل کے بارے میں کہ : شاہان مغلیہ اور مسلم حکمرانوں کے عہد حکومت میں تعمیر شدہ اکثر مساجد میں آیات قرآنیہ کے کتبات مختلف خطوط میں فنِ خطاطی کے عمدہ شاہ کار کے طور پر لکھے گئے ہیں، نیز حرم مکی اور حرمِ نبوی میں بھی یہ کتبات ملاحظہ کئے جاسکتے ہیں، کیا کسی مسجد میں آیات قرآنیہ کے کتبات نقش کرنے میں شرعی اعتبار سے کوئی قباحت یا حرج تو نہیں؟
الجواب وبالله التوفيق فقه كى عبارات سے معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ دیواروں اور محرابوں پر آیات قرآنیہ وغیرہ لکھنا اچھا نہیں ہے؛ اس لئے کہ عمارت گرنے یا رنگ اکھڑنے کی وجہ سے ان آیات کی بے حرمتی کا اندیشہ پایا جاتا ہے۔)کتاب النوازل 13/544)
