Making an investigation regarding the income of the person giving the invitation

I have heard from my elders that if someone invites us then we have the obligation to research whether his income is halaal or haram. So my question is, is it obligatory to research whether his income is halaal or not?
Answer
If he is a very doubtful character then you should research.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
