Question

Knowing that giving gifts is of great merit and is encouraged in Islam...

Is it permissible to participate in a game named as secret sheep for eid which people exchange gifts... since it was derived from the name secret santa and the rules etc. all are derived from the secret santa (done on Christmas).

Answer

This is a resemblance with the kuffaar custom. The Hadith has prohibited Muslims from emulating the kuffaar in their customs and ways. Hence, it is not permissible for a Muslim to take part in this type of game.

If one wishes to give a gift to someone and practice upon the sunnah, then why enter into a game to give it to him?

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
