Question

Is there repentance for murder of a Muslim because there is a verse in the Noble Quran which says:

“And whoever kills a Believer intentionally then their recompense is Hell-Fire, abiding therein forever; and upon them is the anger of Allah and His curse and for them is a painful punishment.” [Quran; 04:93]

Secondly, as I have also heard there is also a report attributed to Ibn Abbas had said that there is no repentance for the intentional killing of a believer.

However on the contrary, large number of Ulama and Muftis say that there is repentance for the intentional murder even of a believer?

Answer

This verse is in regard to the person who kills a believer because of him being a believer (i.e. the killer is not happy with the person being part of the believers). Through killing him for this reason, one will lose one's imaan and become a kaafir. Thus, through becoming a kaafir, one will remain in Jahannum forever.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
