What the Darul Iftas say
“According to the Hanafi Madhab it is not permissible to eat calamari as it does not fall in the category of fish. [Fataawa Darul Uloom Zakariyya pg.272 Vol.6]. Sushi refers to eating of sliced raw fish as a meal.”
“Squid ink is derived from Squid, immediately after it dies. Squids do not fall in the category of fish. They are classified as ‘Cephalopods’, which are specific members of the ‘Mollusca Phylum’ similar to the octopus, cuttlefish, nautilus, etc. which are all impermissible to consume.”
“Clams ? we do not know what is Clams Crab ? no Tuna ? yes Dolphins ? no Lobsters ? no Oysters ? no Octopus ? no Shellfish ? no Shrimp ? no Snails ? no Snakes ? no”
“1. In the Hanafi Mazhab, from the sea creatures, whatever enters under the category of fish are permissible to consume. Calamari does not enter under the category of fish according to us.”
