Is smoking haraam?

“Cigarette smoking is clearly detrimental to one’s health. This is an indisputable fact. Therefore, it is Makrooh (highly disliked and detested) to deal cigarettes in and smoke cigarettes. The income from the sale of cigarettes will also be Makrooh.”

“Smoking is extremely harmful to the human body in various ways. In fact, the cigarette packaging itself states that cigarettes are cancerous. Further, the packaging also warns of smoking being a health hazard. Hence, it is Makrooh-e-Tahrimi to smoke.”

“It is unlawful and Haraam to smoke hemp or Cannabis (Gaanja/Daagha) whether it is in small amounts or large amounts, because hemp is a narcotic substance (i.e. an intoxicant) and to use intoxicants is Haraam in Islam. It is reported in the Hadith Shareef:”

“If your husband's non-Muslim friend did not drink wine or eat pork or any haraam food prior to smoking, then your husband sharing the same cigarette with him will not cause his mouth to become impure. However, it is not right for a believer to befriend kuffaar or have close ties with them.”
