What the Darul Iftas say
“Firstly, it is important to note that a woman may not fast during her menstrual period (haydh). As for a woman experiencing istihaadhah, inserting anything foreign into the internal genitalia is makrooh, although this will not break the fast.”
“It is not permissible for a woman in the state of haidh to recite the Quraan Majeed or to touch the Quraan Majeed. Similarly, it is not permissible for her to verbally recite the translation of the Quraan Majeed or to touch the translation of the Quraan Majeed.”
“In the enquired situation, if a woman’s menstrual cycle ended before Fajr Salah, she may keep voluntary (Nafl) fast on that day even if she does not have Suhoor or did not perform Fajr. She will also have to make Qadhaa of Fajr Salaah and make Istighfaar for not performing Fajr Salah timeously.”
“According to the Hanafi madhab, a woman in haidh is not permitted to recite the Qur’ān whether from memory or by using the Qur’ān. This prohibition is clearly stated in a hadith. Rasūlullah (sallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) has stated:”
