What the Darul Iftas say
“This is not permissible. Through you building a social media app where users will post pictures of animate objects, you will be involved in the sin of photography as well as inviting others to commit this grave sin.”
“From the outset, taking a picture of any animate object and then blocking or cropping the head is incorrect since taking the picture of the entire animate object in the first instance resulted in transgression.”
“It is not permissible to paint, draw, take, keep, buy or sell a picture of a head on an animate object. Similarly, the picture of a skeleton which literally represents the body of an animate being, would be deemed impermissible as it is also emulating the creation of Allah Ta’aala.”
“In principle, it is not permissible to keep any picture of an animate object. However, if there is a need to keep certain pictures such as pictures which are found in textbooks, passports, etc., then one will be excused to keep such pictures.”
