How much hair needs to be trimmed for one to come out of ihraam?
Question
Is it enough to cut little hair from each side of head (as people usually seen doing near gate of sa'ee) or men have to cut at least one third of his hair after performing Umrah?
Answer
If one trims the hair of quarter of the head (and the length of the trimmed hair equals one third of a finger), one will come out of ihraam, though cutting the hair in this manner is impermissible as the hair on one's head will not be even. If one trims less than this amount, one will not come out of the state of ihraam.

Q: I have been to Makkah several times may be 4 or 5. I don't even remember how many times I have done umrah. But I have not cut enough hair to come out of ihraaam except last time. This happened because of my ignorance about the issue and also wrong information given by an Aalim (though he is graduate from darul uloom deoband). What can I do now as I have got correct information now after asking your institute in my last question?
A: You should give six damms in total. Five damms will be given due to putting on ihraam of umrah before coming out of the ihraam of the previous umrah (due to not removing the required amount of hair). Similarly, you should give another separate damm for carrying out those actions that were not permissible for you to carry out during the state of ihraam (e.g. wearing sewn clothes, etc.). Since you were under the impression that you had come out from ihraam, you will only have to give one damm for these mistakes. Hence, in total you will give six damms. The damm is to slaughter a sheep or goat in the precincts of the Haram with the intention of atonement for the mistake committed in the ihraam.

Q: This question is in line with my previous questions regarding umrah and dumm. I asked you regarding improper hair cutting after umrah and you replied that I have to do dumm(slaughter a goat) now. I again counted number of umrah I have done so now I have to do at least 13 to 14 dumm. It is very expensive for me as one goat will cost me around 250 SAR. Now my question is, is there any other way out? If no, can I do it slowly every month for example if I can do one slaughter every one or two months?
