Privacy
Your privacy on Fatawa SA
The short version: we keep Ask AI questions and answers so we can make Fatawa SA better. We never store your IP address, we have no accounts or advertising, and we never sell anything to anyone.
What we keep
- Ask AI. Your question, the answer, which fatawa it cited, the time, which AI model wrote it, whether it was a saved answer, and a rough device type (phone, tablet or computer). Follow-up questions in the same chat are grouped under a random chat number made in your browser; it isn’t linked to you.
- Page views. A count per page per day. No cookies, no IP addresses.
- Searches that found nothing. The search words, counted per day, so we can fill the gaps.
- Reports you send from a fatwa page: your message and the fatwa it is about.
- Notifications, only if you switch them on: your browser’s notification address and the topics and time you chose. Unsubscribing removes them.
- Saved fatawa and reading history stay in your own browser. We never see them.
What we don’t keep
No IP addresses, names, email addresses, accounts, advertising or tracking cookies. To stop Ask AI and the report form being flooded, a one-way scrambled code of your network address is used for a short time; it can’t be turned back into the address and is never stored with your questions.
Why we keep it
To see which questions the archive answers well and which it doesn’t, to correct wrong or unclear answers, to find topics where fatawa are missing, and to keep Ask AI within its free daily limit.
Who sees it
Only the person who runs Fatawa SA. We never sell, rent or share it. The site runs on Cloudflare, and Ask AI questions are sent to Cloudflare’s AI service to write the answer.
Removing what you asked
Questions are kept until we delete them. Under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) you can ask what we hold, and ask us to correct or delete it. As we don’t know who asked what, email fatawasa786@gmail.com with the words of your question and roughly when you asked, and we will remove it. If you are unhappy with how we handle a request, you can contact the Information Regulator (South Africa).
Please
Leave names, phone numbers, addresses and other personal details out of your questions. Ask AI doesn’t need them, and for your own situation it’s best to ask a Mufti directly.
