What are the rules for taking a second wife?

“As per Islamic Law, polygyny (having more than one wife at a time) is permissible provided that certain conditions are met: Consent of the Woman (Bride): The woman must willingly consent to the marriage without any form of coercion or pressure.”

“In principle, polygamy is permissible in Islam. One may marry up to four women at once if one is able to maintain equality between his two wives or among his three or four wives. However, one should consider his situation before making such a decision. You state that you have been married for ten years. You have two children.”

“Just as marrying one wife is sunnah, similarly marrying more than one wife is also sunnah. However, it should be borne in mind that fulfilling certain sunnats are subject to certain conditions being found.”

“There is no equality in travelling. It does not mean that if the husband travelled with the first wife to Aqsa, he is required to take the second wife to Aqsa as well. Furthermore, the travel with the first wife to Aqsa was before the second Nikah was enacted, hence it will not be considered.”
