Who is eligible to receive zakaat?

“The best recipients for your Zakaat are those needy family people to whom it is permissible to give Zakaat to. They would be brothers, sisters, their children, uncles, aunties and so on followed by neighbours, people of your locality, people of your town etc.”

“If the zakat recipient allows you to pay off his debts without him personally taking possession of the zakat money, it will be valid.”

“He is eligible to receive Zakaah if the following conditions are met: 1. He does not have any other Zakaatable wealth that would amount to Nisaab if added together. For example, jewellery or cash savings.”

“The following people are not eligible to receive zakaat: 1. A non-Muslim. 2. A Sayyid (descendent of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam)’s family i.e. the Banu Haashim) even if he is poor. (The Banu Haashim include the descendents of either Hazrat Abbaas, Ali, Ja'far, Aqeel or Haarith Bin Abdil Muttalib (radhiyallahu anhum)).”
