What is the nisaab of zakaat?

“Qurbani is Waajib upon a person who possesses surplus assets equivalent to the Nisaab of Zakaat on the morning of Eid-ul-Adha. If one does not own Nisaab, then Qurbani will not be Waajib. It is not necessary to possess the Nisaab amount in monetary form.”

“In principle, Qurbani is Wajib upon the one who possesses the Nisaab equivalent to the amount of two hundred dirhams (612.36 grams of silver) or twenty dinars (87.47 grams of gold). Personal items, such as home, food, and clothing, are not included in the Nisaab.”

“There are two categories of Nisaab. One is referred to as “Nisaab-e-Asli” and the other is “Nisaab-e-Mustafaad”. If a person becomes the owner of Nisaab on the 1st of Dhul Hijjah 1445, and maintains the Nisaab for a complete year, then Zakaat will be due on the funds on the 1st of Dhul Hijjah 1446.”

“In the classical books of Fiqh, the Fuqaha mention that the Nisaab of Zakaat will either be stipulated through the silver Nisaab or the gold Nisaab. In determining which of the two will be preferred, the Fuqaha unanimously state that one will see which of the two will be more beneficial for the Fuqara.”
