Using Emojis

Question

Would use of emojis in SMS, Whatsapp, Viber, Telegram etc. constitute picture making thus rendering its use as impermissible in Islam?

Answer

Emojis are considered as Tasweer(picture making),hence the use of it is impermissible

فعن عوف ﺑﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﺟﺤﻴﻔﺔ، ﻋﻦ ﺃﺑﻴﻪ، ﻗﺎﻝ: «ﻟﻌﻦ اﻟﻨﺒﻲ ﺻﻠﻰ اﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭعلى آله وﺳﻠﻢ اﻟﻮاﺷﻤﺔ ﻭاﻟﻤﺴﺘﻮﺷﻤﺔ، ﻭﺁﻛﻞ اﻟﺮﺑﺎ ﻭﻣﻮﻛﻠﻪ، ﻭﻧﻬﻰ ﻋﻦ ﺛﻤﻦ اﻟﻜﻠﺐ، ﻭﻛﺴﺐ اﻟﺒﻐﻲ، ﻭﻟﻌﻦ اﻟﻤﺼﻮﺭﻳﻦ ” رواه البخاري
