Are tattoos and body piercings permissible?

“It is permissible for a female to pierce any part of her ears for the purpose of wearing jewellery, whether she has one or multiple piercings.”

“Tattooing is impermissible in Islam, whether it be of animate, or inanimate objects. Nabi Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam cursed the person who tattoos, and the one upon whom it is done. Hence, one should totally refrain from tattooing due to the prohibition mentioned in the Hadith.”

“In principle, it is not permissible for women to pierce any part of her body other than her ears and nose. Piercing the belly button would be considered part of muthlah (mutilation), it would involve exposing the satr (private area between the naval and knees), as well as imitating the disbelievers, which are all prohibited.”

“It is permissible for women to get multiple earrings on condition: 1) The piercing is not an emulation of Kuffar. 2) The piercing does not cause physical and bodily harm.”
