Question

Is it permissible in Islam for women to have belly piercings? What if my husband requests me to do so?

Answer

It is not permissible for women to pierce any part of the body other than the ears and the nose.

Piercing other areas is regarded as mutilation (Muthlah), which is unlawful in Islam. In addition, this is the way and habit of immoral women. Consequently, piercing the belly button, lips, nipples, and similar regions is not considered appropriate adornment for a respectable woman. [Raddul-Muhtar 5:270]

Therefore, such piercings are deemed impermissible, even if requested by a husband or if you intend to please him.

“And do not cooperate in sinfulness and transgression. Have the fear of Allah Ta’ala, for Allah Ta’ala is Stern in retribution.” (Surah 5:2)
